A DALY Trip in Newport, Rhode Island

I must admit,  I am not a traveler. I hate planes and trains but I love new places. As the weather has been warming up in New England, I made my boyfriend promise me to go on a new day trip every weekend. I want to travel around New England collecting vitamin c and memories.

Day trips leave you with limited time to explore and endless sites to see. I would recommend researching and planning the best places to see before you go to make the most of your time. With a full tank of gas and Ed Sheeran on the radio my boyfriend and I made the trek to Newport, Rhode Island.

Living in Massachusetts almost everyone I know has gone to Newport but I had never been. Newport, Rhode Island is approximately a 90 minute drive from Boston, MA. It is filled with classic New England charm, history, and preppiness.

My boyfriend and I started our day shopping on Thames Street. Thames Street is 1.5 miles of heaven to the shopper like me. As much as it’s appealing to look solely at the windows to see the goods each store has make sure that you check out the buildings. They’re beautiful!

The Breakers

There are many mansions in Newport but the Breakers Mansion is the most famous one. The Breakers Mansion; it’s name from the waves crashing onto the shoreline in the backyard; was built by Cornelius Vanderbilt II in 1895. During the tour you’ll find yourself getting lost in the decadence of it all. It is $25 dollars per adult to go on an audio tour of the beautiful mansion but for only $3 dollars more you can see another mansion! The best part, your tickets do not expire! If you run out of time, like we did, you can always visit the second mansion at another time.newport ri, rhode island, the cliff walks, the breakers

The Cliff Walk

The Cliff Walk is a must if you go to Newport. It is a 3.5 mile walk along the shoreline. The Cliff Walk combines the two things that make up the beauty of Newport – the shoreline and the architecture. The Walk goes from Easy to Hard, paved to unpaved but no matter where you start or where you finish the walk is beautiful.

Ocean Drive

My favorite part of our day trip was the Ocean Drive. Ocean drive is a scenic drive in Newport that takes you along the ocean and beautiful mansions of Newport. As the sun goes down driving on this 10 mile stretch is heaven.
